For a couple weeks now i have noticed that the previews for online fonts found are not showing. Is there an issue with the program on my end or a setting that I can correct to have these previews start showing up again? I have always been able to view the previews for both online and local searches, but now online fonts preview states "downloading preview" but never appears.

Hi Derikalena,

The only thing you can do when this happens, is to:

a) Add another (random) letter to preview field "Text To Display".
(This will send a new preview request to our server)

b) From time to time, you should exit/restart the application
(This will empty the preview cache by deleting all images).

This is probably not an issue on your end
but the sign of an overloaded server on our side.

3. Is there any time-specific pattern?
i.e. can you tell that some hours of the day this is getting worst?

3. Is there any time-specific pattern? No, this happens at any time during the day or evening when I am searching fonts for a group on Facebook. Usually between the hours of 9Am-9PM.
i.e. can you tell that some hours of the day this is getting worst? N/A

I closed the application and restarted it, did another search for the same font and this time added another random letter and it is still not showing any previews for ANY of the online search results. Shows me every local search (My Fonts I have on my pc)

Just wanted to give you another screen shot, this one is showing a preview of a local search as it is searching the online fonts. Something I have noticed is that it takes much longer for the online searches to complete, unlike before. It says "sending request" and usually takes anywhere from 15-45 seconds for that to complete. It never used to take that long. It was always immediate if I recall

The matching was never actually immediate (it took 5-10 secs depending on the number of letters you selected) but you are right it were faster enough to not notice the "sending request" message.

We are already studying both the matching & preview delay issues to decide what will be the best solution.

In the meanwhile it may help to explain a little how the preview works.
When you click on an online font match, Find my Font sends a preview request for this specific online font + the next 4 online matches.

These requests are asynchronous, which means Find my Font waits for them to complete and receive the result for about 55 secs, even if you click on another (local of online) font.

Therefore, even if you don't see the font preview immediately, you can try to check the local fonts and return later (click again) to the same online font to see if the preview is finally downloaded.

This is off-course just a workaround, but I hope it may help a little while we are working towards a more permanent and efficient solution.

We have made an optimization to our server
which should normally make the Find my Font client preview much faster.

Would you please verify that the preview speed of Online fonts
is improved on your side too?
